When talked about in psychological circles, descriptions of boundaries tend to focus on the individual: “Set your boundary.” “Protect your energy.” “Don’t let others cross the line.” While personal agency matters, this framing subtly reinforces one of the key illusions spiritual teachings seek to clarify: that we are isolated units defending territory. We are not that separate. We are constantly affecting others and being affected in return. Our nervous systems co-regulate. Our words alter atmospheres. Our choices ripple outward.
